LU4 – Infectious and Parasitic Disease Diagnostics Unit

The Unit diagnoses and studies pathogens and commensal agents responsible for infections (viruses, bacteria, protozoa, and fungi) and infestations (helminths and arthropods). It also studies associated lesions in domestic, wild, and exotic animals.

The Unit’s work aims to evaluate their spread, virulence, and impact on health, welfare, production, and animal population dynamics. In vitro and in vivo sensitivity/resistance to natural and synthetic bioactive compounds is also analysed.

The Unit works to identify pathogenic species (native and exotic) potentially transmissible to humans and/or subject to restrictions under current legislation, evaluating and identifying effective prevention and control methods.
