LU5 – Translational Medicine Unit

The Unit is responsible for the design, planning, and conduct of in vivo studies, aiming to facilitate the translation of basic research findings into clinical applications.

Activities include defining experimental protocols, preparing authorisation documentation, and conducting studies, ensuring scientific quality and regulatory compliance.
The Unit operates on various animal models, with a focus on large-scale models (porcine and sheep), rabbits, and rodents, as well as aquatic models, particularly zebrafish, chosen based on their translational relevance and scientific objectives.

Activities are conducted in accordance with the 3R principles (Replacement, Reduction, Refinement), promoting the integration of in vivo, in vitro, and ex vivo models to optimise protocols, reduce animal use, and improve data quality.

The Unit contributes to the organisation of educational activities and theoretical-practical courses, supported by platforms ranging from in silico to in vivo.
